Event description
The Crestmont Community Association is hosting multiple Halloween Costume Parades starting at 3 pm on October 31st.

About this Event

The Crestmont Community Association is hosting a costume parade for the community of Crestmont on October 31st 2020 starting at 3 pm in the Crestmont West Park. We have also added an additional parade which will start at 4:00 pm.

After consultations with Alberta Health Services, we have had to make a number of changes to our event in order to comply with Government of Alberta Covid 19 guidelines.

Firstly, in order to accommodate everyone who would like to attend, we will now have three separate costume parades. If you have already registered on Eventbrite, you are in Group A and will meet under the pergola at the South side of the park. If you have not yet registered, there are now Group B and Group C tickets available on Eventbrite. Group B will be meeting at the picnic tables in the Northeast section of the park (3 pm) and Group C will be meeting beneath the pergola in the South end of the park at 4 pm. An email will be sent out that includes a map of these locations along with other guidelines. Secondly, we determined that it was not possible to safely put on a dance party at this time. However, we will still play music during the costume parade and participants are encouraged to dance as they make their way around the parade route.

Thirdly, mask wearing is now mandatory for this event.

If you are unable to attend this event for any reason, please cancel your registration on Eventbrite so that other community members may be able to attend.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we adapt to the ever changing landscape that is Covid 19, and know that we can still put on a fun and memorable event for the kids in our neighbourhood.

This event is free for all Crestmont residents. All participants must register for this event in advance (adults and children). Proof of residency will be required at event check-in where participants will also be asked a short health questionnaire by an event volunteer . Ticket sales end on October 29th at 12 am. All children attending this event (residents and non-residents) must be accompanied by an adult.

Schedule:

  • 3 pm-4 pm: Costume parade around Crestmont West Park pathway. Participants will be asked to stay within their cohorts and groups (Group A/Group B) and practice social distancing during this event.
  • Following the parade: Costume Contest prizes will be distributed along with pre-packaged treat bags for all children participating. Costumes will be judged by age groups: Baby (0-3 years), Little Kids (3-6 years), Big Kids (6-9 years), Tween (9-12 years) and last but not least, pets. Winners will be announced under the pergola in the Crestmont West Playground.
  • 4 pm - 5 pm : Costume parade around Crestmont West Park pathway. Participants will be asked to stay within their cohorts(Group C) and practice social distancing during this event.

Government of Alberta Guidelines for Parades will be followed during this event.

We have taken a number of steps to prevent the transmission of Covid 19 at our event.

As always, please remain up to date about developments related to Covid 19. Social distancing will be enforced by volunteers at the start of the parade, during the parade and at the end of the parade. You must stay within your cohort during the parade and absolutely must not interact with the other parade group in any way prior to, during or after the event. Participants who cannot follow these guidelines will be asked to leave the event. Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19, with a history of travel outside Canada in the last 14 days, and anyone who has had close contact with a COVID-19 case in the last 14 days must remain at home. Please consider downloading the ABTraceTogether app prior to attending this event.

Additionally, Government of Alberta Covid 19 signage has been posted around the event space. Hand sanitizer will be made available at the start and end of the event at the pergola and on the picnic tables although attendees are encouraged not to touch any surfaces.

Pre packaged treat bags and costume contest prizes will be distributed at the end of the event by volunteers wearing masks, using tongs and wearing gloves. Hand sanitizer will be made available prior to receiving treat bags (picnic tables under pergola and in the South end of the park). Each group will receive their treat bags and prizes separately. Please remain in your cohort as these are distributed. There will be markings on the ground to remind participants of where to stand (6 feet apart). Treat bags will be assembled by event organizers a minimum of three days prior to the event. Gloves and masks will be worn by treat bag assemblers. All treat bags have been sealed, sanitized and untouched for at least three days. Following assembly, treat bags will be wiped down and sealed in another bag until they are distributed at the event. They will include a full sized candy bar, a bag of chips and a small toy. Please notify event organizers of any allergies so that an appropriate treat can be given. Please avoid touching any unnecessary items during this event. We would like to keep our event as “touch-free” as possible.

Entering and Exiting the Event (map provided): Participants in group A and Group C (pergola groups) will be asked to enter and exit the event from the upper playground area (Crestmont Drive).

Participants in group B will be asked to use the pathway up to the picnic area from (Crestmont Blvd) or from the pathway at the top of Crestbrook Hill to both enter and exit the event.

A map will be shared on social media and distributed via email for clarification.

We are aware that your assigned entrance may not be the most convenient access point for you and your cohort, but ask that you use them to avoid unnecessary congestion.

Lines will be marked on the ground at the registration area to show six feet for social distancing purposes. Please stay on these lines and within your cohort as much as possible during event check-in.

Masks: Masks are required for all event participants including volunteers. There will be extra masks available for participants who feel they need to change theirs out during the event or who forgot theirs.

Spectators: We know that many residents will be looking forward to this adorable event. We ask that if you would like to watch the parade, that you do so from the comfort of your own backyard when possible. If you do not live along the park, please find an area that leaves ample distance between you and the parade participants and do not gather in a single area with other people from outside of your cohort. Following the event we ask that you do not mingle with parade participants and instead wait for them at home. If there are too many spectators who are not following social distancing we risk having to shut down the event.

Washrooms: Due to the short duration of the parade and the fact that all participants live in close proximity to the parade route, washrooms will not be made available at this event. Please ensure that you use the washroom before leaving your home and if you do need a washroom during the event, we ask that you return to your home.

Should you experience any Covid 19 symptoms after the event, please get tested for Covid 19 immediately and notify the event organizers by emailing info@crestmontcommunity.org so that appropriate contact tracing can be completed.

We know this seems like a lot, but we also know that Halloween can be fun and a great way to make memories with your families. 2020 will not take away all of our fun!

    Happy Halloween!

    Sincerely,

    The Crestmont Community Association
