Join us for CSHP-BC Branch's Spring Educational Event!

This year's CSHP-BC Branch's Spring Therapeutics Update will be held at the Paetzold Auditorium in Vancouver General Hospital. Join us for 3 exciting talks from local experts over a delicious dinner.

 

Program:

5:00-6:15 PM: Registration / Buffet Dinner / Manufacturers' Booths

6:15-6:30 PM: Greetings from CSHP-BC Branch Executive Council

 

6:30-7:00 PM SHIFT just got real. ENGAGE-ing the new PARADIGM is no funny matter.

Clinical Pharmacy Specialist- Cardiology, Surrey Memorial Hospital 

New pharmacotherapies for heart failure and stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation have recently been approved by Health Canada. This presentation will focus on ivabradine, sacubitril/valsartan, and edoxaban and clinical considerations when utilizing these agents. 

 

7:00-7:45 PM: Polypharmacy Risk Reduction Across Transitions of Care and Acute Care

Geriatrics, Shared Care Polypharmacy Risk Reduction Initiative Clinical Lead, Doctors of BC 

Dr. Carolyn Bubbar, BSP, PharmD, ACPR
Clinical Pharmacy Specialist- Geriatrics, Lower Mainland Pharmacy Services 

This presentation will highlight polympharmacy risks and key research evidence for addressing polypharmacy in the elderly, both within acute care and for transitions into and out of acute care. Using a case scenario, the presenting pharmacist and physician will explore the current challanges and opportunities in BC, including outlining the approach and the tools from the BC Shared Care Polypharmacy Risk Reduction initiative.

Find out everything you've wanted to know about the opioid crisis including the history, latest statistics, healthcare response, treatment options for opioid use disorder, take home nalaxone, and what lies in the future. This comprehensive presentation will get you up to speed with the current situation and what is yet to come.

Learning Objectives for Spring Therapeutics 2017:

  1. To expose attendees to clinical topics/controversies in pharmacy practice.
  2. To improve knowledge of various areas of pharmacy practice. 
  3. To keep up-to-date in the areas of anemia, diabetes, and palliative care.

This event will be reviewed for accreditation by the CSHP-BC Branch, a CCCEP-approved accredited provider, for 2 CEUs.
