About this Event

Join us ONLINE for this year's CSHP-BC Branch Fraser Valley Chapter Summer CE Event in the comfort of your own home! In an effort to protect our pharmacy community and prevent the transmission of viral illness related to COVID-19, CSHP-BC Branch Fraser Valley Chapter has decided to host a live-stream only event this year. In light of the global COVID-19 pandemic, CSHP BC Branch will be providing complimentary registration to all CSHP members. Enjoy your evening with multiple engaging speakers touching upon the following educational topics.

Program

5:30-5:40 pm: Welcome

5:40-6:25 pm: Kidney Transplant 101: A Practical Approach to the Management of Kidney Transplant Patients.

Dr. Cindy Luo, BScPharm, PharmD, ACPR, BCPS

Clinical Pharmacy Specialist - Solid Organ Transplant, Vancouver General Hospital

Have you ever had a moment of panic when a kidney transplant patient gets admitted to your ward? From immunosuppressive basics to discussion of opportunistic infections, this case-based presentation will focus on how to approach a kidney transplant patient from the time of hospital admission to discharge.

6:25-7:15 pm: SGLT2 Inhibitors for Heart Failure: Does glucose in the PEE protect THEE from DysPNEa?

Dr. Arden Barry, BSc, BScPharm, PharmD, ACPR

Clinical Pharmacy and Research Specialist (LMPS), Assistant Professor (Partner), Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Associate Member, Department of Family Practice, The University of British Columbia

From Dr. Barry: "Wait, what? An antidiabetic drug for a cardiac condition? Is this like that time we used a drug for erectile dysfunction to treat pulmonary hypertension? Basically, yes. This presentation will feature a discussion of the latest evidence and practical considerations for SGLT2 inhibitors in the management of heart failure including the seminal DAPA-HF trial, which was published in November 2019. Unlike my previous CSHP-BC presentation on SGLT2 inhibitors, this one will feature a balanced discussion of the benefits and risks of therapy without the need for James McCormack to contradict everything I say."

7:15-8:00 pm: Presentation and Management of Uncomplicated vs Complicated Gram Positive Bacteremias

Ms. Julia Cahill, BScPharm, ACPR, MPH(Epi)

Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Fraser Health Authority

Gram positive pathogens have virulence factors that facilitate deep tissue invasion and adherence to damaged tissue, predisposing patients to more complicated clinical courses. The audience will learn how to evaluate patients with gram positive bacteremias to support clinical teams in identifying seeding and complications, and optimize antimicrobial therapy.

This program is brought to you by the Fraser Valley Chapter of the CSHP-BC Branch through your committed support of CSHP.
