About this Event

We live in the age of big data. Each of us has numerous personal devices that continuously capture personal information and store it in a multitude of electronic databases. Details such as location, health, financial status and buying habits are stored in massive databases containing information on millions of people, that are managed by public and private sector organizations. As engineers in research, we think about these databases as an opportunity to provide valuable research, epidemiolocal and business insights. With our focus mainly on the development of faster, smaller, more efficient and more informative technology, we don’t often stop to evaluate the dangers of increasing amounts data. A given individual is susceptible to electronic surveillance, profiling and disclosure of private data. It is becoming increasingly important to add measures of privacy when considering big data. Privacy Analytics, an IQVIA company, does just that. They take the people out of data so the opportunity for data analytics is maintained while the personal dangers are diminished.

This presentation will detail government legislation regarding personal information, examples of data attacks to illustrate the importance of data privacy, and the methods Privacy Analytics’ employs to protect individuals and their data.

Snacks and light refreshments will be provided!
