Event description

Join us to learn about our exciting new 12 week course starting on April 4: Cultivating Resonant Community: Learning from the Peterborough Dialogues

Birthed in 2015, the Peterborough Dialogues has been host to over 350 community dialogues, summits, working circles, and discovery dialogues. The Resonance Centre for Social Evolution has since spent time contemplating its successes, failures, innovations, and lessons learned. In the meantime, work continues on the ground to perpetuate and build on successful patterns and processes while also taking the next steps in innovation. New decision-making processes are needed for community groups gelling into associations and organizations. And, the intertwingling of open, generative, and citizen-led media-making are experimental fields rife with possibility and in which we are engaged.

Cultivating Resonant Community: Learning from the Peterborough Dialogues will follow the story of the Peterborough Dialogues from birthsong to adolescence to maturity. Each segment will be live, participatory, and dialogic. Teachables will include everything from philosophical tenets to practical worksheets and processes related to each element and step along the way.

The course closely parallels our Awakening to Community offering which is designed to plant initiatives similar to the Peterborough Dialogues in your city or region under the tutelage of those who have been through it before.

This course is unique in that it considers what it is to host dialogue in place, with persistence, utilizing many dialogue and design formats for different and necessary stages for cultivating deep connection, the enlivening of giftedness, interdependent action, over time.

There also remain thorny problems to resolve within the discoveries so far. Participants will be invited to contribute to the resolution of those challenges and aid in transcending what is being offered as lessons learned.

This course is for those who are considering similar initiatives in their own communities or experienced hosts interested in the nuances of moving beyond hosting single and one-off events to the strenuous challenges of sustained dialogue and results-getting.

It is not intended to bring un-practiced hosts into full practice. It is a step along the way to understanding and development. We do not suggest that inexperienced hosts take this course then wade into practice unsupported by experienced hosts from the Resonance Centre or a community such as the Art of Hosting community.

During this free exploratory call we will share our plans for the course, the format, and the commitments we seek from course participants. We would like to respond to questions and solicit your reflections regarding what you would like to experience and/or learn from the course and the community it will inevitably form.

Our grand proposal is that the Civic Arts, namely Deep Dialogue Hosting and Generative Media Making are the work of Civic Gardeners, a new class of civil service. Their work can midwife the birth of a new social architecture that deepens democracy by enabling and ennobling citizen leadership.

This course will explore the philosophic and practical processes inherent in that very real possibility.

If you choose to join us you must register for this free intro call in order to receive the link and so we can ensure the call is correctly supported. We ask that you commit to joining us for the full duration of the call. The calls will be participatory so we ask that you come ready to be present to the experience.
