WORKSHOP SUMMARIES

CHILDREN’S WORSHIP (Age 3 to Grade 3) - Pat Morrison

Workshop participants will be introduced to a Montessori-informed Children’s Worship model that builds biblical literacy and focuses children on the language, rituals, and traditions of worship. A three-year reusable curriculum will be shared with each participant free of charge.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE (Grade 1-8) - Alana Martin

Multiple theme-based curricula on topics like eco-justice, belovedness, and sacraments that can be formatted into lessons for Sunday morning, family events, or Vacation Bible School. Participants will receive 4 multi-use resources and tools to animate and adapt activities to multiple contexts.

SPLAT! (Grade 4 to 8) - Pat Morrison

Children often benefit from throwing their bodies against cement walls in preparation for Christian religious education. This workshop introduces participants to a highly active bible-focused curriculum that engages young people in the historical-critical method. Participants will receive a one-year curriculum free of charge.

ALANA MARTIN

Alana works as the Minister to The GO Project, which is a United Church of Canada ministry, that connects children and youth to outreach opportunities in their communities. In 11 years, Alana has worked with GO as a site staff, youth coordinator, children’s program coordinator, and pilgrimage coordinator in addition to her role as Minister. Outside of GO, Alana brings 10 years of experience in children and youth ministry within the UCC at local and national levels and is deeply passionate about creating resources and space for young people to explore their faith and to be inspired to make the world a better place. Alana studied Spanish and International Development at Dalhousie University, spending a year on exchange in Mexico and then Cuba. Alana is currently a student at the Centre for Christian studies, a training program in Diaconal Ministry with the United Church of Canada. Alana lives in Toronto and is originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia where her family still lives. Alana loves kickboxing, reading, The Blue Jays, Raptors and spending time with friends and family.

PAT MORRISON

Pat grew up in Chatham, Ontario where, as a teen, he was groomed by his youth pastor for ministry with children and for life on the road as a musician. He studied mathematics at the University of Waterloo and has since forgotten most everything he learned. He settled in Sarnia as a washed-up musician, a Doritos-addict, and a gifted napper. Pat co-created two children with his lovely wife, Alison, and has served as a minister at Grace United Church for twenty-three years. He specializes in sad, angry music and writing Christian education curricula, although the two are not necessarily related.
