Description

Modern parents are both blessed and challenged by availability of the internet and personal electronic devices.

Their adolescent may spend much time in the cyber world, when the parents are unsure whether such time was spent on homework, research, gaming, or socializing with the right peers. To empower parents with the knowledge of leveraging cyber technology as a tool rather than a threat, Registered Social Worker and Registered Psychotherapist Mandy Fang from Chinese Family Services of Ontario will outline the following for parents with adolescent children.

- Manifestation of cyber addiction behaviour in youth

- Psychosocial causes and triggers of such behavior


- Common sources of addiction

- Signs of cyber addiction & co-morbidities

- Risks of cyber addiction, including mental health and addiction issues

- Strategies for parents to work with adolescents on prevention & early intervention of gaming addictions

It will be held in 2 sessions, Nov 10 and 24, from 7 to 9pm. Ms. Mandy Li was the speaker of our 1st parenting session.

Mandy Li Wen Fang is a registered social worker, counsellor, and registered psychotherapist. She graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Psychology and Bachelor of Social Work in 2004, and a Master of Social Work from The University of Toronto in 2010. Ms. Fang has 13 years of experience serving vulnerable populations in the greater Toronto area. Ms. Fang specializes in emotionally focused therapy for marriage counselling and couple’s therapy. She aims to help couples reduce conflict, improve communication, resolve underlying issues, address extramarital affairs, as well as helping them express their emotions and feelings. She also supports individuals in making positive changes in their lives by providing insight and using practical tools, as well as empowering them to reconnect with their strengths. Ms. Fang’s counselling approach is informed by different models, such as emotion focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, person-centered and narrative therapy, family systems theory and attachment theory. She is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

「展望青年領袖培訓計劃」的服務宗旨是培養學員的自信心、社交能力,開發重要生活技能,提升領導才能,以便將來更好地投入社會。學員將透過一系列室內和戶外活動,得到例如急救、演講、領袖技巧以及野外求生等多方面的訓練,並同時協助社區開展各項活動。有意應徵者請到「展望」網頁www.visionyouth.ca 在網上填寫申請表。「展望」將於二月下旬邀請應徵者進行首輪面試。面試結果將會在面試後兩星期公布。
