Event description

Description

In celebration of Dalhousie's 200th Anniversary, the Faculty of Science will unveil the Bill Freedman’s Plant Collection, a garden that is part of the Dalhousie Outdoor Ecolab project. The space provides students, faculty and the community with an opportunity to learn and analyze plants and rocks in an outdoor classroom. The garden complements science-based lectures, traditional labs, and existing field courses that would traditionally bring students off campus.

Dr. Freedman was a lifelong naturalist, conservationist and highly respected Environmental Scientist. He taught and conducted research in the Department of Biology and in the School for Resources and Environmental Studies at Dalhousie University from 1979 to 2015. He also served as Chair of the Biology Department from 2000-2007; held the George H.S. Campbell Chair in Biology from 2007-2010 and was appointed an Emeritus Professor upon retirement in 2015.
