Description

KETCH DI VYBZ (KDV) Production Company presents the 2nd Dancehall Theatre show in Vancouver, BC (the 1st production premiered in 2016). This show features a diverse cast and is directed/choreographed by KDV Co-Owner and Artistic Director Mikhail Morris. You can visit Official Website HERE.

Dancehall Theatre is the showing of the diverse demographics of Jamaican society expressed through dance movements, emotions, and creative concepts. Dancehall culture is mostly known for its music and dance in mainstream entertainment yet there is much more richness to the culture to be shared. Dancehall Theatre strives to educate deeper on the authentic histories, meanings, and realities of what Dancehall and Jamaican culture is truly about. KETCH DI VYBZ Dancehall Theatre shows thereby fuse real life stories on stage to inspire audiences with greater understandings of humanity and cultures.

The total Dancehall Theatre experience is a powerful blend of authentic dancehall dance vocabulary, cross-cultural connection with a diverse cast, and thought provoking concepts to provide a platform to have rich conversations on dance, culture, history, and humanity.

ABOUT 2018 SHOW:

Dancehall Donz & Divaz: The Independence

Dancehall is an entire lifestyle and culture that stems from the realities of pain and poverty in Jamaican society. A true understanding of Dancehall requires an understanding authentic Jamaican history, culture, and life.

KETCH DI VYBZ presents the second Dancehall Theatre production. Titled "Dancehall Donz & Divaz: The Independence", this show is an abstract story of life of Jamaicans after Jamaica gained Independence on August 6, 1962 from British colonization. Although independent, the story will speak about how the citizens of Jamaica still remained captive under the currupt leadership of political party rivals: the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the People National Party (PNP). It is this struggle where the citizens used music and dance to voice their demand for justice. The Donz and Divaz, played by our diverse cast, represent the men and woman of Jamaica who fight each and every day through authenticity to protect their loved ones, culture, and ancestors that paved the way for them.

PRODUCED BY KETCH DI VYBZ: Judy Madarasz (Marketing Director) & Mikhail Morris (Artistic Director)

2018 DANCE CAST: Mikhail Morris, Tereza Paraschivescu, Orlando Ricketts, Celina Whiting, Tawni Keith, Celine Dimzon, Tiffany Shim, and Colleen Cassidy.
