Dance//Novella Rough Cut Showing

By Dance Victoria Society

Overview

Experience a 30-minute excerpt of Dance//Novella's new work in development, "So to Speak", followed by a Q&A.

For two weeks, Dance//Novella is working at our Quadra Village studios as part of DV's Residency Artist program. The Vancouver-based company is developing So to Speak, a series of performance worlds: moments where repetition, heartbreak, humour, and tiny flashes of transcendence come to life.

Led by co-director and performing artist Brandon Lee Alley, So to Speak will explore movement, voice, and playful object work as ways of examining the cycles we fall into and the brief openings that let us breathe or change.

Co-director Racheal Prince will shape the process as dramaturg and rehearsal director, guiding the material’s structure and emotional arc. Together, they will discover whether these experiments grow into a set of distinct scenes or one flowing, ever-shifting piece that captures the strange, tender effort of being human.

The artists will share a 30-minute Rough Cut (work-in-progress showing). Following the performance, guests are invited to stay for a Q&A with the artists.
Dance Victoria’s Rough Cuts are free and open to the public.

Dance Victoria’s Artist Residency program is made possible with generous funding from the Victoria Foundation’s Community Grants program, with additional support from Dance Creation Sponsors Impossible Enterprises and Dance Praktika, and individual underwriters Helen McDonald and two anonymous donors.

Dance Victoria’s Rough Cuts are free and open to the public. If you are inspired by the work you see and have the capacity, please consider making a charitable donation to support these opportunities. Your gift ensures that we can continue to offer meaningful support to independent dance artists, including performance opportunities like Rough Cuts. Donate here.
