Dark City Beneath the Beat is a musical documentary, co-produced by Issa Rae, that reimagines the narrative of Baltimore, a city rising above social and economic turmoil to develop a vibrant and close-knit community for the arts through its homegrown sound, Baltimore club music. From the political and social climate to the creative LGBTQ community, the audio visual piece opens a window connecting the world to Baltimore.

Tedra Wilson, known as TT The Artist, is a filmmaker, creative director, community artist and designer, who paints the world with visual language. Through art and music, she creates a well-blended sound of hip hop, pop, club and EDM. TT The Artist holds a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and a concentration in video.

Regent Park School of Music is a community music school that gives 1,000 kids a year a rich and rewarding music education, by removing the financial obstacle. For over 20 years they have seen that the study of music allows young people to flourish creatively, personally and academically…enriching their lives and future prospects. Students have access to some of Toronto’s best music teachers and a vast array of musical instruments and options. They make music with fellow students, RPSM faculty and even the odd celebrity and perform all over the city.

Regent Park Project is a hands-on film-making initiative, by Kick Start Arts, offering young people ranging in age from 13-27, an opportunity to participate in free training in acting, writing, and production. They then participate in all aspects of the filming of the on-going web series - collaborating with professional artists who offer their time and expertise as mentors.

Thank you to our Co-presenter: Hand Eye Society

The pre-show activities and the film will be closed captioned.

Stick around for our afterparty following the film!
