About this Event

DEC is pleased that, with the support of Energy Efficiency Alberta, it is able to offer this course from Natural Resources Canada through trainers from Process Ecology and RER Energy Inc.

This 3-day course is a professional development opportunity for plant and process engineers, engineers responsible for building energy management, and consultants or researchers working in the field of continuous process improvement for industry or buildings. Attendees will learn how to analyse and optimize the performance of industrial processes and buildings using multivariate data analysis, neural networks and other techniques. They will understand the mathematical concepts behind these techniques, and be able to identify the appropriate techniques to employ given a particular type of problem. They will be able to complete a multivariate analysis project from start to finish using the EXPLORE software.

Course Outline

Day 1:

Introduction to multivariate analysis and EXPLORE software

Multivariate analysis problem definition

Pre-treatment of data

Exercise: data pre-treatment with EXPLORE

Principal component analysis (PCA)

Day 2:

Exercise: diagnosing anomalies with EXPLORE using PCA

Predictive modelling using statistical methods (projection to latent structures) and neural networks

Exercise: predictive modelling with EXPLORE

Process monitoring and fault detection

Day 3:

Review of course fundamentals and use of EXPLORE

Case studies: boiler, digester, etc.
