To provide a beginner-level introduction to Dialectical Behaviour Therapy principles and its application in acute psychiatric settings.

This course will provide a beginner-level introduction to Dialectical Behaviour Therapy principles and its application in acute psychiatric settings. (3-hour course; beginner’s course; background in DBT not necessary).

Learning Objectives:

1. Learners will understand the philosophical underpinnings of DBT (i.e., dialectics).

2. Learners will understand the bio-social model and how it can be used as a conceptual framework to understand psychopathology

3. Learners will understand the use of validation as an effective intervention to regulate emotion.

4. Learners will understand basic behaviour change strategies.
