Description

Deadly Thinking YOUTH is a social and emotional wellbeing and suicide prevention workshop giving you the tools to help you handle the pressures we all face in our lives. Designed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to be delivered to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people aged 12 – 20 years old!

Deadly Thinking YOUTH Train-the-Presenter Workshop is a two-day workshop where core social and emotional wellbeing issues affecting young people are yarned about in an open, respectful and comfortable forum. We are trained to deliver the Deadly Thinking YOUTH workshop in our own communities to young people.

Day one goes through the diverse aspects of social and emotional wellbeing, each session includes a Deadly Thinking YOUTH video as a starting point for yarning, storytelling and learning how to present the information in our own communities.

Topics covered include: the importance of yarning with family and friends; How to deal with your own worries; Dealing with today’s social and emotional wellbeing challenges that can affect you, your family, and your community; Improving your awareness and understanding of what causes depression, anxiety and suicide; Understanding how changes in your life might stress you out; Problems like drugs, alcohol and bullying worries; Connecting with your culture and country as a way of staying strong.

Day two is where we present a session to the group. Creativity and interaction is key! All involved must present a session to ensure that we are delivering this sensitive information in a safe and culturally appropriate way and can support our young people if they need support. All participants must facilitate a workshop to achieve Presenter status.

All participants receive a Deadly YOUTH Presenter Thinkpack, morning tea and refreshments.

This pack comprises: a Deadly Thinking logo bag; truckers cap; pens and pencils; Deadly Thinking YOUTH presenter manual and a certificate of participation.

*Relevant checks for working with young people and children will need to be cited when facilitating independent workshops, contact petaboorman@rrmh,com.au for further workshop information. Contact brooklynjones@rrmh.com.au for registration inquiries.
