Join dynamic Calgary jazz vocalist Deanne Matley at Knox United Church on Saturday May 5 at 7:30 pm as she celebrates the launch of her fifth and most personal album, Because I Loved. Deanne will be joined by renowned Montréal players Paul Shrofel (piano), Adrian Vedady (bass), and Jim Doxas (drums), along with Jon Day (trumpet), Keith O'Rourke (sax), Carsten Reubling (trombone), Neil McVey (guitar) and a string quartet from Bishop Carroll High School.
In Because I Loved, recorded last year in Montréal, Deanne takes us on her own emotional journey from the pain of losing love to quiet contentment, with stops at red-hot passion and the excitement of new love along the way. Whether she's singing one of her own original songs, or covering numbers by (among others) Stanley Turrrentine and Journey, Deanne's seen-it-all authority permeates every cut. “This is an album about love, melancholy, and starting again … about relationships,” says Deanne. “It’s the album I’ve always dreamed of making.”
