About this Event
Join Ryerson Faculty of Arts researchers, research assistants, post-docs, and graduate students in an interdisciplinary roundtable discussion featuring a panel of researchers discussing some of the challenges and tips on navigating our current unpredictable and rapidly changing SRC landscape.
The purpose of this event is to foster conversations about how best to plan and execute safe, rigorous and ethical research during the pandemic. Our goal is to support each other and share ideas.
Speakers:
Moderator - Dr. Frank Russo, Psychology. Frank Russo is a Professor of Psychology and the NSERC-Sonova Senior Industrial Research Chair in Auditory Cognitive Neuroscience in the Faculty of Arts, Ryerson University. He directs a research laboratory focusing on the neuro-cognitive, neuro-affective, and socio-biological aspects of music, speech and hearing as well as an international research network focusing on group singing for wellbeing.
Anne Spice, Geography and Environmental Studies. Anne Spice is a Tlingit member of Kwanlin Dun First Nation, an anti-colonial organizer, queer feminist, and land defender. She is Acting Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, and a doctoral candidate in Anthropology at the CUNY Graduate Center.
Dr. Rob Goodman, Politics and Public Administration. Rob Goodman is Assistant Professor of Politics and Public Administration at Ryerson University. His research interests include rhetoric and the history of political thought, and his forthcoming book, Words on Fire: Eloquence and Its Conditions, is under contract with Cambridge University Press
Dr. Rai Reece, Sociology. Rai Reece is an interdisciplinary scholar-activist, whose work broadly examines how carceral processes in Canada are organized and maintained by historical and contemporary narratives of colonial violence. Her work specifically examines the intersection of punishment and misogynoir as legally and socially enacted via governance and settler capitalism. Dr. Reece is Assistant Professor in the department of Sociology.
Dr. Lauren Kirshner, English. Lauren Kirshner is a creator-scholar and Assistant Professor in the Department of English, and the winner of the 2020 Arts New Faculty Teaching Award. Her novel was a finalist for the City of Toronto Award Book and she is the Founding Creative Director of Sister Writes, a creative writing and publishing program for at-risk women in Toronto.
Dr. Jamin Pelkey, Languages, Literatures and Cultures. Jamin Pelkey is Associate Professor in the Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures. His research draws on semiotics, linguistics, and anthropology to investigate questions of meaning and language evolution.
