Description

Day 3 (Part 2) of Social Impact Week led by Chelsea and Taylor from dctrl

Join community organizers from dctrl for an interactive discussion on Bitcoin – a decentralized, peer-to-peer money system. Learn how math based trust can provide a very strong promise of censorship resistance, irreversibility, and scarcity. Using Bitcoin is a huge amount of personal responsibility, and there is no recourse if you make a mistake, so it’s important to learn first.

They will go through hands on activities using (testnet) Bitcoin wallets and addresses. In addition, they will discuss advanced features such as multisig, and go through recommendations on how to be confident and safe using Bitcoin. Finally, they will discuss the current state of the Bitcoin network (busy) and community (contentious, splintered) and discuss some of the ideas and technologies on the horizon of this extremely fast moving space.

This session is open to the public free of charge.

Social Impact Week Mandate: Here at the HiVE, we pride ourselves on fostering a changemaking ecosystem that houses members from diverse industries and global backgrounds, who are all conceiving innovative ideas and projects working towards the betterment of society. The goal of Social Impact Week (SIW) is to build a network of knowledge within our community by showcasing these ideas through various workshops, presentations, discussions, and activities. This is our chance to directly display the range of skills, social cohesion, and resources that enable our members to thrive. This is also an opportunity for HiVE members to connect with one another and inspire the greater Vancouver community.
