Deep Leadership: James Cameron's 7-mile dive into the Mariana Trench
Date and time
Description
In 2012, Titanic director James Cameron made a historic seven-mile dive into the Mariana Trench - the earth's deepest point.
Dr. Joe MacInnis, who studies leadership in high-risk environments, was part of the team that supported the DEEPSEA CHALLENGE solo dive. In this illustrated presentation, he chronicles the forces of nature, technical breakdowns and severe stresses that plagued this risky mission—as well as the leadership principles that led to its success.
Dr. Joe MacInnis is a physician-scientist, author and deep-sea explorer who has been making history since he was the first person to explore the ocean beneath the North Pole. His teams built the first undersea polar station and discovered the world’s northernmost known shipwreck. Among the first to dive to the Titanic, he co-led the expedition to film the wreck of the Titanic in Imax format. That project inspired James Cameron’s Academy Award-winning feature film.
Dr. MacInnis's latest book, Deep Leadership, will be on sale after the lecture.
