Deep Retrofits in Manitoba

Deep retrofits, also known as High Performance retrofits (HPR) is a whole-building analysis and construction process that aims at achieving on-site energy efficiency improvements compared to baseline. It involves multiple systems in an integrated approach that has impacts on energy, indoor air quality, durability, and thermal comfort.

These retrofits are possible in Manitoba and not particularly technically challenging when using the right approach and system. However, HPRs are expensive using the Business as Usual approach to Climate Change adaptation so how can we think critically about the social and economic changes that will be necessary to accomplish the task of retrofitting or rebuilding Manitoba's stock of older residential buildings.
