Join us for the inaugural Substance Use Grand Rounds presentation, featuring speakers Dr. Karen Urbanoski & Evan James
Karen is the Canada Research Chair in Substance Use, Addictions and Health Services Research, scientist with the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research, and an assistant professor in Public Health and Social Policy at the University of Victoria. Her research focuses on the development and course of substance use problems and addiction, and the roles played by health and social service systems in recovery.
Evan is the team lead with the Umbrella Society. He has been providing outreach support in a variety of settings for Umbrella for the past 6 years, supporting anyone affected by substance use. As a person with lived experience, Evan credits Umbrella with helping him achieve his goal of sobriety.
Their presentation will consider:
- What is the biopsychosocial model of addiction?
- What do relational models of addiction have to add?
- What do these different models of addiction mean for treatment?
