Description

Do you want to learn a positive approach to dementia care? Do you want to create an inclusive and engaging environment for all? Do you want to experience what it might feel like to have dementia? Do you want to learn U-FIRST principles? Do you want to decrease violence in the workplace? Check out our new dementia care training program!

The Dementia Care Certificate Program is a comprehensive educational program offered by the Alzheimer Society of PEI for healthcare professionals.

The program is composed of two courses:
1 Dementia Care Training 101 Program (DCT – 101)
2 Dementia Care Training 102 Program (DCT – 102).

Course Overview:
Each 12-hour course will provide and enhance your knowledge and awareness of dementia, increase your effective communication strategies, and practice hands-on skills which will enable you to provide quality care for persons with dementia. Learners will receive a workbook, U-FIRST! wheel, e-handouts and access to additional resources on the U-FIRST! website.

DCT101 Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, learners will be able to:
1 Utilize U-FIRST principles to effectively understand responsive behaviors
2 Understand the basics of Positive Approach to Care: Hand-under-Hand™ techniques
3 Identify an individual’s progression using Teepa Snow’s GEMS™ Framework.
4 Increase effective communication strategies for person-centered care
5 Describe signs, symptoms and biomedical effects of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
6 Understand how one experiences dementia via Virtual Dementia Tour.

Date:
This session of DCT101 will be offered Sept 10-11, 2018, from 9:00-4:00pm. Registration will begin at 8:30am.

Location:
Stratford Town Hall, 234 Shakespeare Drive, Stratford, PE

Cost:
$200 per person. Snacks included. Lunch on your own.

Note:
DCT101 is a pre-requisite for DCT102. Official receipts will be sent directly to your email via EventBrite in the confirmation email.
