Description

Department of Community Services programming would seem to be the best kept secret going!

Often serving a common citizen group, partnerships between DCS offices and the local community organizations can only benefit both parties, and more importantly. the people accessing the services. DCS invites you to a workshop on the services, funding streams and contacts available to non-profit organizations in the Northern region.

Topics covered will be:

Youth Development Initiative – funding youth focused projects that help our young people build the skills and experience they need to connect to their community and successfully enter the work force. Do you have an idea for working with youth in your community? We would love to partner with you.

Youth Wage Subsidies – partnering with local businesses and organizations to provide young people with meaningful work experiences during the summer months or part-time during the school year. Need an extra set of hands this summer, while helping a youth gain skills? Learn how your organization can be involved!

Post-Secondary Targeted Wage Subsidies – heard the old saying “I can’t get a job because I need experience, but I can’t get experience without the job”? This wage subsidy assists DCS clients who are attending post-secondary training, or preparing to attend training, get the experience they need to land a job when their training is complete. Non-profit organizations can often use some skilled help but their budgets don’t permit any extra employees – these subsidies may be the answer!

Regional Projects Coordinator – Oversee and manage project agreements with community based service providers within Northern Region that provide programming to DCS clients to maximize their opportunity to attach to the labour market. Funding is provided by Federal and Provincial governments to assist people in Skill Development, Volunteer and Work Experience opportunities, and tailored employment focused programs based on client need.

Regional Service Provider Relationship Manager – builds and fosters relationships between DCS and community based service providers. Learn about the assistance this valuable contact can provide to your organization.

In case of inclement weather on January 22, 2018, January 23, 2018 (10am-noon) will be the storm date. We will abide by school closures. If schools are closed on January 22 we will postpone the session to January 23.
