NSWOCC National Conference announces a new Dermatology Micro-Credential Program for Advanced Healthcare Professionals: Translating New Knowledge to Practice

The skin is the largest organ in the body. Dermatological disorders account for at least 20% of patient complaints in family practices.

This special in-person program which has a separate registration, is running as a part of the NSWOCC 42nd National Conference and will highlight common diagnosis and treatments in the field of dermatology. Designed for non-dermatologists, participants will increase their expertise to improve dermatological patient outcomes. This program is aimed at:

  • Physicians (Family Practice, General Practitioner)
  • Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOC)
  • Nurse Practitioners
  • Clinical Nurse Specialists
  • Family Practice Nurses
  • Allied health professionals (pharmacists, rehab, occupational and physical therapists, etc.)

Attendees will receive:

  • 7 hours of CME credits that will count for 2 units of micro-credential credits
  • A certificate of attendance (RCPSC, CFPC) from Queen’s University and NOSM University in collaboration with Sault College and WoundPedia
  • A certificate of micro-credential completion from the assignment for 8 additional units will be issued from Sault College

Program

This program will feature the following topics on May 6th and May 7th, 2023 as a separate registration program within the NSWOCC National Conference:

  • Acne Vulgaris
  • Atopic Dermatitis
  • Dermatoscopy
  • Fungal Infection
  • Hair Loss
  • Pediatric Viral Rashes
  • Pre and Malignant Lesions
  • Psoriasis
  • Rosacea
  • Scabies, Bites and Stings
  • Staph and Herpes Infections
  • Urticaria Enabler
  • Additional units will be added based on student needs/gaps in practice

COMPONENTS FOR DERMATOLOGY MICRO-CREDENTIAL

The presentations will feature the common and often misdiagnosed dermatological conditions. The format will include:

  • case-based presentations with live interaction questions, discussion periods and active chat questions with responses (at least 25% of sessions)
  • diagnostic features will be presented with differential diagnosis
  • appropriate investigations will be discussed
  • Treatments, both topical and systemic, will be detailed
  • Enablers for practice will feature a quick reference guide to facilitate knowledge translation for improved patient care

This session will give physicians 7 hours of continuing education credits and equivalentstanding for other healthcare professions. The dermatology micro-credential for the innovation fund will include a total of 30 credits.

Schedule

The Dermatology Micro-Credential Program will happen on the afternoon of Saturday, May 6th, 2023 and the morning/afternoon of Sunday, May 7th, 2023.

  • Saturday, May 6 (3 hours of education): 3:00pm-6:00pm
  • Sunday, May 7 (4 hours of education): 9:00am-1:00pm
