Event description

Description

This 1-day workshop brought to you by the London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) in partnership with the Ivey Academy at the Ivey Business School offers London-based organizations the opportunity to learn design thinking principles to solve your organizations most challenging problems.

Typically only held in Toronto, in a three day format, the London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) and The Ivey Academy are partnering to bring this hands-on program to London in a one day format at an affordable price.

Throughout this workshop, you will learn how to:

  • Identify and address new market opportunities.

  • Prototype solutions that capitalize on those opportunities.

  • Lead yourself and your organization through innovative change.

Design Thinking builds an organization’s ability to catalyze positive change through stronger, more creative leadership and innovation. This program will help you answer a fundamental business question: how can I determine my customers’ needs and identify opportunities for meeting them?

Design Thinking is a creative methodology for uncovering previously unknown customer needs or problems. Rigorous experimentation is utilized to sift through the many possible solutions that are produced by rapid ideation. Following the prototyping process, the best ideas are combined to generate an execution-ready product or service.

Instructor: Dr. Darren Meister
Associate Professor, Entrepreneurship, Ivey Business School
John M. Thompson Chair in Engineering Leadership and Innovation, Western University

What You Will Learn

  • What Design Thinking is? What it isn’t? And when it’s useful. The key stages of Design Thinking, including problem exploration, idea generation, and prototype development.

  • Methods to link Design Thinking to change management and organizational structures

  • How to prepare your organization, business unit, department, or team for innovation success

How You Learn

Ivey’s hands-on, experiential learning approach will coordinate participants into a series of teams. Each team will identify a problem that can be transformed into a market opportunity. Then, by employing the process that participants have learned in class, each team will prototype viable solutions for a true Design Thinking experience.

Who should attend?

Executives and senior leaders who work in turbulent environments, must innovate new products or services, concerned about product or service delivery, or seeking to bridge technical and business gaps.
