Program Overview



Design thinking offers a repeatable and scalable methodology for ensuring that products, services, and platforms create meaningful value for end-users. This program introduces Design Thinking through the lens of AI and machine learning to teach frameworks, tools, and best practices for creating more impactful AI-driven solutions.

This workshop is highly interactive and will challenge attendees to think critically about how AI and machine learning are used in the public sector.

Program Details



Hosted virtually over two half-day sessions, participants can expect to walk away with a comprehensive understanding of how AI and machine learning work. A wide range of use-cases relevant to the public sector will be covered, including:

  • Recommendation Engines
  • Experience Personalization
  • Predictive Analytics
  • Conversational/Voice Interfaces
  • Process Automation

From there, participants will explore the fundamentals of design thinking - adapted to AI and machine learning. Participants will gain hands-on experience with unique methods and exercises that can be used to ensure that products and services meet end-users, clients, and citizens' needs. Some of these methods include:

  • AI Specific Ideation Methods
  • Tools to Spot Machine Learning Opportunities
  • Confusion Matrices for Validation
  • Rapid Prototyping for Chat/Voice Interfaces

  • Fundamentals of machine learning

  • Deep learning & advanced topics in emerging technology

Day 2 Topics

  • The design thinking mindset & methods
  • Design frameworks for AI & machine learning
  • How to spot AI & machine learning opportunities
  • Prototyping & validating AI systems with confusion matrices
  • Thinking about conversational interfaces (voice/chatbots)
  • Industry insights roundtables
  • Ethical AI & responsible use of data

Virtual Schedule

This training will be taking place virtually on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 1-2, 2021 from 10:30-12:00pm and 2:00-3:30pm both days. We use a virtual platform that you are able to access from your home network. You do not need your corporate VPN to access the training.

Schedule:

  • Tuesday, June 1st: 10:30am - 12:00pm & 2:00pm - 3:30pm
  • Wednesday, June 2nd: 10:30am - 12:00pm & 2:00pm - 3:30pm

You will receive separate invitations to all 4 sessions listed above.

Your Instructor:

Ramy Nassar, Partner, 1000 Days Out

Ramy is the founder of 1000 Days Out and author of the upcoming AI Product Design Handbook. As the former Managing Director of Design & Strategy for Architech and Head of Innovation for Mattel, he has led diverse teams in the creation of disruptive new digital products, services & platforms.

With a background in computer engineering and Design Thinking, Ramy has straddled technical, Design, and business-oriented roles, for clients including Cadillac Fairview, Apple, Air Canada, Facebook, New Balance, Rogers and CIBC.

Ramy teaches Design Thinking at McMaster University and in the Master's of Engineering, Innovation & Entrepreneurship program at Ryerson University. Ramy is a regular speaker at international events including World Usability Congress, IxDA, FITC, AI Everything, Machine Learning Exchange, AI Business Summit and World Mobile Congress.
