Event description
Interactive digital media sector talks, showcases, and social mixer to promote introductions, learning, and collaborative relationships.

About this Event

The interactive digital media sector of Newfoundland and Labrador is a growing industry and community with an influential reach into entertainment, education, practical application, and vocational training. We are seeing technologies such as games, simulation, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and other innovative approaches foster these possibilities through our local experts and visionaries.

This event will feature incredible talks from industry speakers, a product showcase and demo area, and include a social mixer.

Our Featured Speakers:

Dave Churchill: Assistant Professor of MUN Computer Science. Presenting his research and development of artificial intelligence technologies, and applications in game development.

Randy Billard: Executive Vice President / CTO of Virtual Marine. Speaking about simulation technology and using game design practices to build simulators for improving marine safety.

Curtis Rioux: Founder / Director at Stellar Boar Productions. Speaking about, and demonstrating 2D art and animation processes from script to screen and how it applies to game development.

James Cann: Owner / Developer at Initus Interactive. James will speak about the experience of pursuing independent game development and the process of creating his upcoming sci-fi game, Xengris.

Showcase Area:

Main speakers may have demonstration areas to showcase products and practices. CNA's Video Game Art & Design program will have a student game showcase, and entertainment provided by CNA's Music: Performance, Business & Technology and Sound Recording & Production programs. Including information booths for CNA's School of Academics, Applied Arts, & Tourism; and the School of Business and IT.

Mixer:

An incorporated mixer to expand social and professional networks and create opportunities. Snacks will be provided and beverages will be available for purchase.

This is a great opportunity to begin showcasing this growing, multidisciplinary industry in NL and provide a valuable learning and networking experience for students, graduates, community, and industry. It is an opportunity to introduce how the different disciplines of art, programming, sound and music, writing, film making, business, design and all areas of development, contribute to this interactive digital media sector.

This event is presented by GDNL in partnership with Genesis and College of the North Atlantic, and NATI, in association with Business and Arts NL.

GDNL (Game Developers of Newfoundland and Labrador) is an informal, volunteer organization which promotes and executes initiatives to unite the interactive digital media industry and community; encourage growth in the sector; and provide opportunities to connect, learn, and succeed in these creative, technology, educational, and business fields.
