Description

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Three ‘F#ckUppers’ will each have seven minutes to tell their story with 10 slides and this is then followed by a 10 minute Q&A. The crowd’s job is to support them with cheers of “Congratulations, you f#cked up!”.

SPEAKERS (aka F#ckUppers):
Anthony Brown, CEO, AMPD Technologies
Joe Bonar, Studio Head, Truly Social Games
Galan Akin, Co-founder & CCO, East Side Games

SCHEDULE:
7:00PM Networking over sips and bites
7:30PM F#ckUp stories
8:30PM More networking over sips and bites
9:00PM Event wraps up

WHY DO IT?
This growing cultural need to never be seen as failures is not good for anybody or any business. Here’s the truth – according to a number of studies, 97% of business failures have an inordinately high rate of suicide, depression, and mental illness (49% of Silicon Valley founders were diagnosed with depression versus 7% among the general population). We like our awesome community so let’s support each other and go against this brutal trend!

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • We all f#ck up
  • Think dev post-mortem but on a stage and in a supportive, fun, safe environment
  • It promotes an acceptance of failure and celebrates trying
  • We can learn from our mistakes as a community
  • We want to get rid of the stigma of failure – failure is part of reaching success
  • Entrepreneurial culture can be isolating and dark so let’s shed some light and humour on the challenges of being a dev entrepreneur
  • Where else are you going to get the chance to yell at the top of your voice, “Congratulations, you f#cked up!”?
