Discover your Passion: Neuroscience
Sun, 4 December 2016, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM PST
Life Over Labels is proud to present our first event series- Discover Your Passion! Over the next few months we will be inviting experts from a variety of fields (both STEM and otherwise) to present their work, details about their career, the path they took to get there and why they enjoy it. We will also feature student speakers who will be presenting on areas close to their hearts.
Our first speaker will be Dr. Gordon Rintoul, an Associate Professor at Simon Fraser University and an accomplished researcher in cellular neurophysiology. Dr. Rintoul will be speaking about his research, his work as a professor and the amazing world of neuroscience. Dr. Rintoul's research focuses on mitochondrial dynamics within cells and the implications of impaired mitochondrial function in diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
Our student speaker for this event is Lasya Vankayala, a UBC student and a 2016 recipient of the Schulich Leader Scholarship.
Scholarship winners and students from SFU and UBC will also be in attendance at the event and there will be a time for high schoolers to speak with these students about the application process and scholarship tips!
Admission is free but donations are greatly appreciated- all proceed will go towards future lecture events!
