Powered by the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA), the Greater Victoria Local Immigration Partnership (GVLIP) and the City of Victoria are pleased to invite you to the GVLIP Summit 2022, "Diversity Works! Immigration & Employment in the Capital Region.”
Join us to:
- gain better understanding of local labour market challenges, employment barriers for immigrant job seekers, and the opportunities that are generated by a diverse work force.
- obtain concrete and innovative information on how to recruit, hire, and retain immigrant and other diverse talent.
- network around equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives in the region.
- celebrate successes and learn from mistakes.
Speakers
- Our plenary speaker is Patrick MacKenzie, CEO of the Immigrant Employment Council of BC. Patrick has made a career of public service from coast to coast, working in policy and program areas aimed at supporting many of Canada’s most vulnerable communities through economic and social development as well as international relations. Previously, he spent 11 years working for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada at its national headquarters in Ottawa and its regional offices in Vancouver. Throughout his career, Patrick has worked with partners on matters affecting aboriginal and immigrant populations, including immigrant economic integration, provincial nominee programs, credential recognition and labour mobility.
Our roundtables will discuss 'Newcomers Navigating the Job Market' and 'Community Voices: Creating Change Now'. Our panelists will include:
- Neha Sharma, Mohamad Alwafaai, Aboubakar Idriss and facilitator Silvia Mangue Alene
- Karima Ramji, Sam Mod, Richard Michaels and facilitator Jasmindra Jawanda
At the end of the event, we hope to leave you with:
- increased inspiration and excitement to make your workplaces more equitable, diverse, and inclusive.

Event details
The GVLIP Summit, “Diversity Works! Immigration & Employment in the Capital Region," is in-person and includes a buffet lunch from the Empress Hotel. Masks are encouraged and COVID19 regulations will be followed.
The event is funded by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
