About this event

During this afternoon workshop with Art Gallery of St. Albert Staircase Feature Artist Amanda McKenzie learn how to achieve success while printing at home using a variety of exciting techniques and processes. First, create intricate patterns by marbling paper using colourful inks. Next, learn how to make a DIY screen frame from an embroidery hoop and sheer fabric. Then try out printing using hand-cut stencils & silhouettes. Explore monoprinting techniques by using watersoluble crayons to add designs and details to your imagery. This workshop will give you a taste of the many possibilities you can experiment with printmaking and by creating multiples! Create a suite of prints from your discoveries and try your hand at layering the techniques together to further explore colour, mark-making, and patterning.

This workshop will provide all participants the optional opportunity to participate in a group print exchange where anyone who is interested can create additional prints to exchange with one another. These prints can also be featured in the Community Tank Project that has been organized for community members to create and display their hand-made aquaria-esque creatures on the lower staircase and art nook area at the AGSA!

The workshop will have templates and stencil inspiration provided to participants that relate directly to the artist’s work in Enticement . Imagery will consist of fish, insects, birds, and reptiles - all small creatures that typically are found in small cages or glass tanks. Participants are encouraged to bring their own imagery to use when creating their stencils and prints; bring along your favourite bug, bird, fish, or otherwise!

Supplies will be included in the course fee, some general art supplies and items will be required to be sourced by the participants. A list will be provided for your preparations. This is a virtual program.
