The Wood Shop Sessions "Build your Own Headboard or Wall Art

In one 8-hour day, you will construct from start to finish, your own custom headboard for your bed or a piece of wooden artwork for your wall!

With an expert carpenter on hand, learn how to use tools such as a finishing nailer, cordless drill and screw gun, pipe clamps, belt sander, orbital sander, and numerous other hand tools. No experience required!

Gain hands-on knowledge about reclaimed wood and woodworking techniques while getting the satisfaction of making your own piece of furniture.

Choose from 6 Headboard designs

* Chevron

*Vertical Plank Inlay ( Vertical planks, all the same length )

*Horizontal Plank Inlay ( Horizonal planks, all the same length )

*Variated Plank Inlay ( Horizonal planks of varying lengths )

*Diagonal Inlay ( Diagonal planks, all the same length )

*Lath Art of your design choice. See below for further details.

Headboards will be made with a flush or a non flush trim. Bold boarders may be added as well!

Special design requests may be considered based on selected design.

Your Headboard will be constructed so that it can be directly mounted to the wall with a French Cleat, a very simple, safe and secure way to mount your headboard! This is a great option for those of you who rent a space and home owners alike! We will provide you with all the step by step instructions to install it at home yourself or we can help you. See below for installation service information.

We will help you build your project from start to finish using pieces that have been prepared for you according to your preferences and submitted design.

Other designs may be considered and will need to be discussed with the facilatator ahead of time to make sure that it is the right fit for the Session and your skill set.

Upon registering for the Session we will send you an email and work with you to plan what you would like to build, choosing a style, size and finish for your headboard. Single, Queen, or King size headboards are welcomed. Max Length is 79" Wide and 48" High.

Here is some important information about material fees & additional costs:

The Shop Class Session has a base rate of $ 225.00 + Taxes. Material costs, taxes and delivery are additional.

Wood Shop will supply all of the materials you will need to complete your project.

Cost for material would typically range from $20-$100 For example an average cost of material for a Queen sized headboard is anywhere from $ 40-60 depending on the pattern you choose. The cost of the material is based on the size and style of the headboard that you build.

A material fee's invoice will be emailed to you upon completion of the Shop Class Session, payment is required upon completion of the project. Payment options include, cash, gift certificate, email money transfer, cheque or credit card.


What age group is this appropriate for?

We welcome all ages to the Sessions. If a participant is under the age of 18 please send us an email as they may need to be joined by an adult depending on their skill set. Contact us, so we can help get you registered.

What skill level do you need to have?

No experience necessary! We will provide you with the support you need to use the basic tools required for the project. We have the table saw covered, so you get to fun with assembly and design! Keep in mind, the more complex the pattern the more experience, speed and patience you are going to need. If you think you will need a helping hand bring a friend for an extra $25. FYI. You will need to buy a ticket to go along with your Session ticket. Limited space is available.

When can I take my headboard/wall art home or have it delivered?

You can usually pick up your piece or have it delivered the week following the Session once the finish has cured and the materials invoice has been paid.

What is the cost for delivery?

In Vancouver:

$30 Monday to Friday 9am - 5 pm

$50 After 5 pm and on Weekends

In other areas such as North/West Van, Richmond, New West etc, please send us a request for a delivery quote.

Can someone help me install my headboard/wall art?

Installation can be provided at time of delivery for an additional $ 30.00/per hour

Installation can be provided at another time rather than delivery for an additional $ 60.00/hour. Add $ 20.00 if it is after 5 pm or on a weekend.

What does the $225.00 Session Ticket include?

When you purchase a Session ticket it is for ONE participant and covers the cost of the facilitation and time in the Shop. Material fees are additional and depend of the size of the item that you build and the wood species used.

Can I bring an extra person to the Session?

The answer is YES as long as we have the space and you have purchased a ticket. We have 3 spots available for additional participants. Please purchase the Add an Extra Person ticket on EventBrite. Or we can add it to your Material Fee invoice. We need to know in advance if you will be bringing an additional person to the Session. This allows to staff the event properly and to have enough tools and safety equipment for everyone.

What type of Wood is used?

We use rustic reclaimed Pine, Spruce or Fir. Should you like to inquire about other types of wood such as cedar, maple or fir please ask as we may have the supplies to accommodate the request.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

We have ample free parking outside of the Shop. The location is within walking distance of the Main St. Skytrain Station and bus routes.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable or refundable?

Refunds and Date Transfers: Refunds and or Date Transfers will not be issued within 10 days of the Shop Class Session. See below for additional options.

Transfer of Ticket : We want to make your experience with our Shop Class sessions a positive one, so we allow the transfer of a Shop Class ticket in the event that you can't make it. You may transfer your ticket to another person and they can submit a new design by the Wednesday prior to the Shop Class Session. You may also transfer your ticket to another attendee up until the Session date, but we will not be able to alter the design specs submitted.

Pay it Forward: You can't make it to your Shop Class Session and you want to Pay it Forward by donating your spot to a person in the community who has given back to the community through volunteering or who may not otherwise be able to afford to attend a Shop Class Session.
