Learn how to make soy+beeswax container candles! Includes filtering, fragrances vs essential oil, choosing wax varieties + right wick size
About this event
Want to learn how to make those yummy and cozy candles you see in stores? But do you also want to be certain you are getting an all-natural, sustainable product? It's easier than you think to make natural candles at home! It can be overwhelming to invest in all the DIY products before seeing if wax is a medium for you. How do you choose the right wax? How does filtering natural wax work? How do you make candles smell good, burn better, and what the heck are all these wick sizes? How much wax do you need for that specific cool container that would be perfect for a candle? You've landed at the perfect workshop for all your questions!
In this class you will learn about soy and beeswax for candle making, how to filter beeswax, how to calculate wax for containers, how to use frangrance oils as well as essential oils, how to choose the right wick for your candle (and what different wicks are), and how to fix those pesky cracks that can happen if the temperature is not right! We will also go over why certian containters are more difficult to use than classic jars (like those teacups in the photo).
This class specifically handles candles made with containers. You will make two candles (one soy and one beeswax if desired, or the same kind). We will provide many unique containers (yes, even teacups) and also tealights for any extra wax you have :) Each participant will have 400 grams of wax in total which can be divided in any way. For reference, a standard coffee mug holds approximately 300 grams.
Materials included in the class:
-400g per person (top-ups available in person for additional cost)
-gloves
-A variety of containers to choose from - two to take home
-Tealights for any extra wax you may have
-Over 20 frangrances and essential oils to choose from
-Wicks, coconut oil, all the necessary equipment, of course!
-Take-home information sheet
Each container will have a volume attached to it so participants can choose what to make. Candles will be ready to take home right after the class!
Notes: a general safety waiver must be signed prior to class. Working with wax is very safe but it is very important to follow all safety guidelines described by the instructor as wax gets very hot and ingesting/handling oils can cause skin irritations.
Due to space limitations, classes are limited to 4 participants.
