How are these rad women doing things differently in the world of business? What can a feminist perspective bring to the economy? To innovation? What does it mean to get paid as a woman? To start a business? What challenges and advantages do women have in building a new social economy?

Catherine Ludgate

Catherine is a dedicated co-operator transforming complex tools into accessible and relevant ones for the social benefit sector in service of social change. She has a talent for translating complex tools available to government and for-profits (financial services, legal tools, communication vehicles) into accessible and relevant tools for the not-for-profit /social benefit sector, in service of social change missions and mandates. Vidya Crawley

Combining human-centred design, lean startup and empathy-based marketing, Vidya is a sought-after advisor for social purpose businesses bringing new products, services and innovations to market. With 15 years of global experience as both intrapreneur and entrepreneur, she coaches changemakers across all industries to transform the status quo. Lead Educator and mentor at Groundswell.

Elena Yugai

Elena is a cultural historian who turned to social entrepreneurship and impact investing to directly affect the social change she believes in. Elena is an advocate for women-led and women-serving businesses, especially immigrant and refugee entrepreneurs. Mentor and Director of Development at Groundswell.

Marissa Wright

Marissa is a business leader and advisor with 35 years experience primarily with technology-based businesses, with the last 17 years in a Vice-President/General Manager, and received her MBA from SFU in 2013. Marissa is a founder of three companies, and has helped several other entrepreneurs get their businesses off the ground helping develop business plans and strategy, one of which has reached $120m in annual revenue. As a transgender woman, Marissa transitioned at work in 2016 and is currently launching her own consulting practice focused on helping start-ups and early-stage companies with their market and investor strategies. Marissa identifies as she/her/queerer than a three-dollar bill. President at Authgnosis; Advisor at Groundswell.

Paola brings authenticity to radical movements and projects in the local economy. As Managing Director of Groundswell, she orchestrates the building of a vibrant social ecosystems that liberates people to pursue their creative ventures and livelihoods.

Accessibility & Getting Here

Groundswell is wheelchair accessible, with elevator access to the 4th floor of the Sun Wah building from the lobby. Washrooms are gender neutral and wheelchair accessible.

From the lobby, take the elevator up to the 4th floor and head down the hallway to your right. Do not take the escalator up from the lobby unless you like figuring out mazes!

The Sun Wah parking garage is locked at 7 pm so if you are driving, please find street parking.
