Don’t Believe Everything You Think: Introduction to Implicit Bias
Event Information
About this Event
What causes us to prefer some people over others? To be more likely to hire, promote, develop, and trust members from certain identity groups, despite evidence that others are equally or more qualified? We like to believe that our decisions reflect our intentions to be open-minded and fair, but in reality, there is often a disconnect between these intentions and reality. This session will uncover how implicit biases shape our thinking and the top strategies we can apply to make better decisions in work and life.
Learning Objectives:
- Know what implicit biases are, how they impede diversity, equity and inclusion
- Identify areas of your own personal bias and how they're shaping your thoughts, behaviour and decisions
- Develop a personal action plan to spot and address them in yourself and others
After this webinar, all participants will receive an action plan template, infographic, and tip sheet covering the materials and topics discussed.

This six-part series is being offered at $49 per session, but we have also introduced a Pay What You Can option. We hope this helps those who would like still like to participate while helping us inch closer to our fundraising objectives.
All proceeds from sessions will support Leadership Niagara’s ongoing programming and commitment to future-focused leadership during the pandemic and beyond.
