DOORS OPEN TORONTO PRESENTED BY GREAT GULF

The Bentway

Saturday, May 25
Tours: 12:30pm to 1:30pm, 3:30pm to 4:30pm
Led by Daniel Rotsztain and Ellie Joseph

Doors Open weekend will include tours of The Bentway site and its concurrent High Line Network inaugural Joint Art Initiative exhibit New Monuments for New Cities. May 25 tours are led by Daniel Rotsztain and Ellie Joseph. Ellie Joseph, organizer of the Two Row on the Grand event in Six Nations, in conversation with Daniel Rotsztain, The Urban Geographer, will lead a site walk discussing the principles of the Two Row wampum belt, and how they intersect with the Bentway's histories, designs, and approaches to city building.

The Bentway will also act as a terminus point for neighbouring Doors Open tours.

The weekend will also include a panel discussion titled Public Space Reborn: The Evolution of Toronto City Building, on May 26 at 2pm. The panel brings together established Toronto city-builders in conversation with up-and-coming diverse and millennial voices to explore how Toronto has evolved into a new version of itself through critical projects that embody how “we shape our cities and our cities shape us”. Included in this panel is Ken Greenberg, who will read from his new book “Toronto Reborn: Design Successes and Challenges”, where he describes the process of change through a number of noteworthy “works-in-progress”, such as Regent Park, The Bentway, Wellington Place, Project Sidewalk, and more. Additional panelists include Hon. David Crombie (former Mayor of Toronto), Jermyn Creed (Artscape Daniels Spectrum), Jesse Shapins (Sidewalk Labs), moderated by Zahra Ebrahim (Doblin). The event will also include a public reception for Ken Greenberg’s forthcoming publication.
