Honoring Frank Doyle

Frank Doyle is the former Executive Director of Boston HealthNet Inc. (BHN) and the current Chairman of the Boston Public Health Commission and Board of Health. Throughout his more than twenty plus years of leadership in health care at BHN to his work throughout Boston, the state and the nation, Mr. Doyle has devoted his career to supporting healthier communities.

At Boston HealthNet, Mr. Doyle built and directed all aspects of an urban health care delivery network comprised of Boston Medical Center (BMC), Boston University School of Medicine and 14 affiliated community health centers. He created a wide variety of collaborations around cutting edge clinical initiatives, business opportunities and health information technologies. His vision for improving population health by better coordinating and integrating a system for delivering health services across the continuum of care impacted over 262,000 CHC patients through more than 1.3 million patient visits, 12,000 inpatient hospital admissions and 165,000 outpatient hospital visits at BMC annually. Under his leadership, BHN became a national model for the affiliation of health center controlled networks and academic medical centers, and made BHN a critical partner in creating the Boston Accountable Care Organization which is designed to reduce cost and improve the quality of care across the network.

As an attorney, Mr. Doyle has counseled a wide range of organizations and leaders on legal, government, community and public affairs issues. He was a key member of the leadership team that oversaw the creation of Boston Medical Center and the Boston Public Health Commission. Mr. Doyle is a former foreign diplomat who served as the United States Attaché to the Holy See (Vatican) in Rome, Italy and senior advisor to Boston Mayor Raymond L. Flynn.

Mr. Doyle is an active member of America’s Essential Hospitals, the National Association of Community Health Centers, the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers and serves on numerous boards and committees including the Boston Residency Compliance Commission, Marion Manor for the Aged and Infirmed and the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative. He lives in Dorchester with his wife Attorney Maura Doyle, Clerk of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court where they raised their three children: Francis J. Doyle, Jr., MD, Jacqueline and Matthew.
