experiment b (30 min)
creation, performance  Gerry Trentham
collaborators  Katherine Duncanson, Sara Porter

Dedicated to the life of teacher, gardener and poet Bea Elyé, experiment b considers the parts of our life that are like a garden in fall.  The ways we strive to stay vital, in bloom, when the natural order is decay. The desperation of nearly achieving before our time is up, before the snows fall. The compassion and humour one needs for oneself and others when it takes a lifetime of living at death’s door to understand where we fell short and what we are apologizing for. Written, choreographed, designed and performed by Gerry Trentham, this work celebrates a journey from simple conversation and gesture through to the seamless interplay of dance, theatre, sound, visual and media design.

Sara Does a Solo
(60 min)
creation, performance  Sara Porter
collaborators  Katherine Duncanson, Gerry Trentham

Sara Does a Solo melds story-telling, dancing, singing, poetry and Porter’s trademark humour in a strong visual design, set specifically in the renovated classroom of the Intergalactic Studio at Artscape Youngplace. This multi-media solo investigates aspects of identity, motherhood, what it means to be an artist, and challenges the boundaries between reality and the imaginary. It considers how we experience the passing of time, and proposes that we might live in different parts of our history in one moment. Questions of what comprises ‘the truth’ about ourselves and what kinds of pressures work upon us to make us who we are – as grown-up children, as artists, as parents, as performers, as people – are all part of the play in Sara Does a Solo.
