Event description

Description

Author and journalist Ellin Bessner will discuss her new book, "Double Threat: Canadian Jews, the Military, and World War II." It reveals how 17,000 Canadian Jews donned a uniform in WWII. They fought and died in all the major battles, and they had a double reason to enlist: they weren't only fighting for freedom and democracy, but were also trying to save the Jews of Europe from Hitler's Final Solution.

Ellin Bessner’s career as a journalist was spent mainly with CTV News and CBC News. A reporter, anchor and producer, Bessner was also a foreign correspondent based in Italy, from where she covered three African civil wars. Bessner is a professor of journalism at Centennial College in Toronto.

Generously sponsored by Doris & Rammy Rochman in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.
