Description

Are you a social innovator? A Calgarian of vision who believes in the power of living locally, building thriving communities and shared prosperity?

Are you an entrepreneur who does business differently, who cares deeply about people and the planet in addition to making a profit?

Are you looking to connect with others who think, live, and do business the same way you do? If you are, then Down To Earth Week is definitely for you.

Down To Earth Week 2017 will bring together 19 presenters across three interactive events, all of whom are visionaries and agents of social change. Together we will explore ideas and come up with creative new ways to instigate meaningful, long-term change in Calgary, both socially and from a business point of view.

Growing Food, Jobs & Hope on April 23 (2:30-5pm at Fort Calgary) will feature social entrepreneur, urban farmer and author, Michael Ableman. Your ticket includes a copy of his fourth and latest book: Street Farm: Growning Food, Jobs and Hope on the Urban Frontier. After Michael's keynote, get inspired and connected to three Calgary organizations that are working at the intersection of urban food production and poverty. Representatives from Boks Farms, Grow Calgary, and The Alex Community Food Centre will share openly the challenges of creating meaningful work for those left out of the mainstream economy, using local food production as an instrument of change.

Capital for Cause: Back to Basics on April 24 (8am-4pm at Eighth Avenue Place) will connect social entrepreneurs with impact investors who are interested in generating a triple bottom line return. Jason Switzer from Alberta Clean Technology Industry Association (ACTIA) will provide a keynote presentation, followed by panel discusssions and working groups on food security and affordable housing. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Innovating for Shared Prosperity on April 27 (5-9pm at Hotel Blackfoot) will inspire and connect those who are passionate about building thriving communities, creating good jobs and doing business differently. City of Calgary city manager, Jeff Fielding, will share the ways in which Calgary is supporting innovations for shared prosperity and the creation of a resilient local economy. Jeff's keynote will be followed by six short presentations by local changemakers, facilitated networking and World Café discussion groups. Your ticket includes a buffet dinner.
