Downtown Fredericton Stone Buildings | Geological Heritage
Sat, 29 October 2016, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM ADT
Usually we have to go rock outcrops to visit a variety of rocks, but in downtown Fredericton the rocks have come to us. From ‘boring’ grey sandstones, to red granite and Tyndall Limestone full of fossils and from stone that came across the Atlantic to stone that came from just down the road. Many of the stone buildings have a story from before their construction. More recently some exotic stones have come downtown in the form of sculptures and this has added to the richness of Fredericton in more than one way. On the tour we will discuss a bit of the history of stone buildings, what type of rock they are made of, and in some cases some story behind the history. I hope this will be an interactive walk with lots of talk.
Everyone is welcome to explore with us! :)
