Downtown Streets: A Long Exposure Photography Workshop
Event Information
About this Event
Most photographs are shot with fractions of a second. A blink of an eye passes as each photo is taken. However, when long amounts of time are allowed to pass in between the opening and closing of a camera’s shutter, unique photographic opportunities are unveiled. Compressing time in a photograph is often a way of creating images that are more unique to the eye, simply because it highlights the difference our eyes may see that same scene.
So how does one utilize long exposure for an appealing image? Join Winn for an afternoon around Denver’s Union Station, and embark on a journey of time travel and discover the myriad ways that time can impact your images. For example, extending time of exposure to create motion can add more than just a cool factor to an image. It can sometimes change the meaning of your final image totally. It is this just one of reasons long exposure techniques are invaluable to every photographer.
To enable you to get the most of the workshop, it is split into two sections. During the first hour of the workshop, you’ll learn the ins and outs of choosing your composition, reading where the light is, setting up your camera and lens, and the various accessories needed to create stunning long exposure images, with demonstrations included. For the remainder of the afternoon, you will be able to apply all the techniques and styles you’ve learned to photographing Denver’s Union Station and the surrounding area in the beautiful fading afternoon light. If we’re lucky, we may even get a great sunset to boot.
Topics Include:
- Proper Camera Technique for Long Exposure
- Shutter Drag
- Neutral Density Filter Technique
- Daytime Long Exposures
