Event description
Discover the story of Canadian caregivers who risked their lives to treat typhus-stricken Irish emigrants in Toronto in 1847.

About this event

The short film is presented by Canada Ireland Foundation as part of the lead-up to the upcoming opening of Grasett Park in Toronto.

Descendants of these Famine emigrants recall the resilience of their ancestors and pay tribute to the Canadians who cared for them. Dr. Jason King (Academic Coordinator of the National Famine Museum, Strokestown Park) and Robert Kearns (Founder and Chairman of the Canada Ireland Foundation) share further details that research has uncovered about this remarkable chapter in history.

This premier virtual screening is part of a series of digital events, The Great Famine Voices Roadshow, organized by Dr. Jason King. It is funded by the Government of Ireland Emigrant Support Programme.

Note: the screening will commence on Sunday, June 20 at 4 pm EDT (Toronto) and 9pm IST (Dublin).
