Please join us as we engage in professional learning focused on understanding how best to teach mathematics to all students.

About this Event

DAY ONE: Building Number Fluency

Participants will explore a number of the critical elements of number fluency:

• using a variety of representations for a number and exploring what each representation reveals about the number, being able to flexibly decompose and recompose numbers, knowing when to apply particular operations and when there are choices, the advantages of having a variety of alternative computational and estimation strategies,the value of ensuring that strategies are explained meaningfully, Marian will address whole numbers (from little to big), decimals, and fractions. She will particularly address mathematical understanding and the kinds of questions we ask of students to ensure they do really understand.

DAY TWO: Supporting Strong Mathematics Instruction as an Instructional Leader

Marian will support administrators as curriculum leaders by focusing on answering the following questions What specific actions can you take to lay the foundation for a strong math culture in your school? What do you monitor? How do you overcome resistance? How much difference does instructional leadership make in math instruction?
