Event description

Description

Every year, the Fraser River deposits about 32 million cubic metres of sediment into the Strait of Georgia. To provide a safe and efficient waterway for ocean-going vessels, an annual average of 3.5 million cubic metres of sediment is dredged from the deep sea channel as part of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority's maintenance dredging program.

Join us for this free presentation to hear:

  • What makes the Fraser River so mighty
  • Why annual dredging is essential
  • When and where maintenance dredging occurs
  • Personal anecdotes from a lifetime of working on the river
