An NDH/Rouge-gorge preview event
Join us for an NDH/Rouge-gorge preview event at the old Chapel of The Sisters of the Precious Blood, now John Paul II Building.
Exploring mémoirs, Dresswriter is a dance and sound-based performance work directed and performed by Robin Poitras with original set pieces by Clifford Wiens. Dresswriter comes out of investigations in gesture and writing with long-time collaborator Rober Racine.
Due to unforeseen circumstances Racine is unable to join us. Poitras will be presenting excepted halves of the duet. An opportunity to see the full work will be announced in the New Year. December 4th’s performance is the first in a series intended to be distilled and added to each year. The idea of Dresswriter as living memoir was co-conceived with Daniel Storto 2007.
Marked by the rhythms of an UNDERWOOD Underwood typewriter, with sound design by Charlie Fox, the work is set in a subtle landscape sculpted by Edward Poitras with light design by Bill Hales.
Dresswriter is inspired by: words that fall between stories, childhood memories (in part autobiographical), memories of memories and stories from Rewind & Fast Forward written by Poitras’ father Clifford Wiens. It is an ode to Poitras’ mother who, while loosing memories with advancing Alzheimer’s, says Poitras, “continues to shine with a most remarkable spirit.”
“The stallion knew his job well. Father would ask his two young sons to leave for the house, which we never did. Consummation would be completed behind the barn, while we peeked through a knothole in the barn. The ground shook.” – Clifford Wiens
