Event description

Description

Learn the basic principles of dyeing in this introductory workshop. We'll cover the pros and cons of different dye types and how to choose the right one for your project. We'll also discuss tools and equipment, and dye studio health and safety. We'll put theory into practice with some quick dye tests and each participant will have a chance to try their hand at dyeing cotton fabric swatches and small amounts of wool yarn.

This workshop fulfills the orientation requirements for Helios Dye Studio memberships.

This is an introductory workshop and no previous experience with dyeing is required. It is suitable for ages 14 and up. Participants should wear comfortable shoes and old clothes (that they won't mind if they get stained).

About the instructors:

Debbie Sullivan enjoys working with textiles of all kinds, and has specialized in hand-dyeing yarn through her business Sweet Paprika Designs, where she has also taught a variety of dyeing workshops over the past 5 years. She studied Design for the Theatre at Concordia University, and still enjoys putting her dye skills to use in creating stage costumes on occasion as well.
