Flute virtuoso Claire Chase brings her Density 2036 project to Toronto.
Of what will the Density of our time be made? Of osmium? Of signal processing? Of wood? Of carbon? Of flesh? Of air? – Claire Chase
Chase's commanding presence fills the intimate cabaret space at Buddies in Bad Times in this rare chance to experience the nuance and virtuosity of her solo performance in Canada. In this trailblazing project Chase is commissioning an entirely new body of repertory for solo flute each year, advancing towards an epic 24-hour marathon of solo flute in 2036 in celebration of the 100-year anniversary of Edgard Varèse’s groundbreaking 1936 flute solo, "Density 21.5".
In anticipation we can feel the energy of composers Steve Reich, Du Yun, Marcos Balter, Jason Eckardt, Mario Diaz de Leon and Edgard Varèse. Friends, drinks and auditory delights make for an unforgettable night out.
