Event description


Designed specifically for teachers new to the EYE-TA or who need a refresher, we will take you through everything teachers need to know about integrating the EYE-TA into existing classroom activities. We will also demonstrate hands-on activities that will show you how to incorporate the EYE-TA items into purposeful, play-based learning.

A background on reading development and general administration procedures for the EYE-TA.

Taking the Guesswork Out of Scoring the EYE-TA Items

An item-by-item review of the EYE-TA skills that will be evaluated, along with play-based suggestions for observing these skills in the Kindergarten classroom. Lots of hands-on activities to support learning!

Data Entry

How to easily enter your data into the online system and generate reports.

Interpreting the EYE-TA Child and Classroom Report

Understanding and using your EYE-TA child and class report. Also, real-world examples of how teachers can use the results from their class reports to help inform and guide their educational instruction.

Post Assessment Report and Interpretation

Post EYE-TA Assessment Reflections: Interpreting results and supporting children to ensure a successful transition to Grade 1.

Costs will be invoiced directly to the districts unless registered guests indicate otherwise.

For those registered guests who would prefer to pay for the workshop themselves, please bring a cheque or cash to the event (unfortunately we are unable to accept any other form of payment). Or, alternatively, registered guests may choose to mail a cheque prior to the session date (please mail your cheque at least 1 week prior to the workshop start date). Please indicate which PD Zone you have registered for (i.e., Zone 1- Peace River, Zone 2/3- Edmonton, Zone 4- Red Deer or Zone 6 - Lethbridge) when mailing the cheque.

If you are registering multiple participants and do not have the attendee names confirmed yet please add each individual attendee as Teacher 1, Teacher 2, etc., with your email address. This will allow us to confirm numbers. Registrations placed after August 18 may only receive digital material at the event.

Registrations include morning and afternoon refreshments, lunch, materials for implementing the EYE-TA, and a professional development certificate.

The workshop will be led by Janette Desharnais - Account Success Manager (EYE)

For over eight years, Janette has worked in the literacy field training teachers and tutors, delivering workshops, and creating resources. She also spent many summers delivering math and literacy camps in Indigenous communities in New Brunswick. Through her forestry and science background, she has also worked in the field of outdoor education, outreach, and research. Janette grew up in a francophone community in Manitoba, but later lived in various communities in northern Ontario and Quebec; she now lives near Fredericton, New Brunswick. Her passion for helping others has been a great asset in her work building strong and collaborative partnerships throughout her career.
