Enjoy the connections between art and nature as we explore new concepts at the Leighton Art Centre.
On Earth Day, we invite you to join us in a day of creativity and celebrations led by the artist Barbara Amos. The day will focus on the hillside overlooking the Rockies as we walk, talk and create. The day will begin with an indoor talk on an overview of environmental justice art projects. Starting with 1969 work of Jean Claude Christo, it will introduce new artists and reference Alberta artists Peter Von Teisenhausen and Lyndal Osborne. The Red Alert Project will develop the connections between wilderness, art and humanity as it introduces the Earth Day project for the afternoon.
This workshop is open to teenagers and adults, ranging from no art experience to being a professional artist.
Supplies: Bring your camera, your sketchbook and your drawing materials, a picnic lunch as well as your sense of humor! Drawing materials will be available if you do not currently own materials. The following materials for the collaborative art project are optional to bring if you have them laying around your house: old sunglasses, hats, mitts scarves, red fabrics (ex. sheets, towels, scarves etc.). Please avoid obvious Christmas references.
Weather Conditions: In case of poor weather conditions, the workshop will be led indoors.
Fees: This cost of this event is by donation which helps the Leighton Art Centre support our educational prams for over 8 000 children each year, family art and nature programs, artist workshops and exhibitions as well as the Leighton Heritage Home and permanent art collection. Registration is required.
