Rotary International is a humanitarian service organization that brings together business and professional leaders in order to provide community service, promote integrity, and advance goodwill, peace, and understanding in the world. It is a non-political and non-religious organization, East York Rotary is just one club dedicated to serving our local community. Rotary members believe that we have a shared responsibility to take action on our world’s most persistent issues. Our 46,000+ clubs work together to: Promote peace, Fight disease, Provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, Support education, Grow local economies and Protect the environment. Through a series of partnerships in our local community we support these efforts - organizations that we currently support include but are not limited to: New Circles, Bethany Baptist Church Food Bank & Day Camps, Tree Planting & Clean Ups with Don't Mess with The Don, (HIP)Honoring Indigenous People, Wood Green, Breakfast Programs in elementary schools and Holiday Gift Drives for families in need.
Proceeds from this dinner are dedicated to the memory of Scott Lyall, a passionate and long serving member of our club, our goal is to raise $25,000 to purchase a Cardiac Centre In-Patient Room at Michael Garron Hospital in Scott's memory. Scott was a proud member of the East York Rotary Club. A two-time past president, he was awarded a “Paul Harris Fellow” for his many years of dedicated service to Rotary and the community. Scott was also a longstanding foundation board member of Michael Garron (formerly, Toronto East General) Hospital and was instrumental in co-chairing the annual golf tournament. One of his greatest philanthropic endeavours was “The Longest Day of Golf” (2 years in a row) where he played 225 holes, in a day, raising substantial funds for the Cancer Society.
